Biography
« A painting should make you smile before it makes you think. »
Born in Dar es Salaam, Saidi Mrisho learned Tingatinga painting at the Oyster Bay cooperative. Enamel on board, vivid flat colour, crisp outlines: he has mastered every code.
Yet he subverts them with mischief — market scenes, animal processions, imaginary villages — to depict daily life with tenderness.
